Q:Who can use Viper?

Viper can be used by Students, Researchers and Staff of the University of Hull, please note undergraduates need a project supervisor, for more information on applying please visit applying for an account.

Q:How do I apply for an account?

To apply for an account on Viper please visit apply for an account, please note to access the application page you must be on campus or connected to the University VPN, for more info visit the Apply for an Account page.

Q:How do I connect to Viper?

To connect to Viper you need to be on campus or connected to the University VPN, for instructions on how to connect to the VPN click here, then follow the instructions on getting connected for your specific operating system.

Q:Is there anything I need to know before using Viper?

Viper on storage is not backed up. Please make sure you are creating backups of your data off Viper. Please do not run jobs on the login nodes they are primarily intended for code compilation and development, job submission and monitoring. Please submit jobs using SLURM or start an Interactive session.

Q:What is my storage quota?

Currently no storage quota is in place, please note this is likely to change as more users start using Viper.

Q:Is my data on Viper backed up?

A: Data stored on Viper is not backed up. Please make sure you are creating backups of your data off Viper, especially if your data is critical. For information on Transferring data to and from Viper please visit Transferring Data.

Q:How do I apply for time?

Currently users do not have to apply for time on Viper, please note there is a 5-day time limit on jobs.
